Justin Bieber Masters the Deep Summer Fur Coat

Famous people do not care about the weather. This is a perk of being famous: they don’t have to care about the weather! For the most part, the temperature of the air outside or whatever the sky has decided to do that day has no bearing on their daily plans. They do not need to pull up the Apple Weather app before they get dressed to leave the house. They do not need to bring an umbrella. When you spend all of your time going in and out of air-conditioned sprinter vans, homes, and public venues, you get to wear whatever you want. Indeed, as GQ’s Frazier Tharpe observed recently of the Chicago rapper Polo G, “Nothing exudes wealth and fame quite like a disregard for seasonally appropriate attire.”

Thus, Justin Bieber pulling up to his friend and collaborator The Kid Laroi’s 18th birthday party in West Hollywood this past Saturday wearing a massive fuzzy jacket feels pretty par for the course. Still, though: hot!

Though the weather crept into the high 80s in Los Angeles this past weekend, Bieber paired his teddy bear coat with a white tee, baggy blue jeans, one of his new favorite Ian Charms kooky necklaces, and a clean pair of low-top Air Force 1s. He even posted some photos from inside the soirée at Poppy’s nightclub , which confirmed that he kept the jacket on during the party (or at least for the pics). The whole ensemble felt like an homage to the late ’90s, early 2000s hip-hop silhouette—the Diddy chinchilla era, and everything that came after.

And yes, the icy-cool bus, club, ’nother club, ’nother club, plane, next place lifestyle means that a fuzzy coat is just fine attire for a summer evening in LA. But Bieber and his longtime stylist, Karla Welch, are also certainly aware of the absurdity (and subsequent meme-ability) of such a getup, particularly since he’s worn a similar look at least once before. Looking good: even if you’re sweating, it’s no sweat.
